ndxCards™ uses the idea of an electronic index card to record notes and ideas-something you read or heard, a recipe, some boilerplate text or code snippet. It helps you organize your freeform notes using subjects and keywords, sources, authors, etc., and structure those note cards in different ways to facilitate writing research papers or making presentations.
Add information easily
Open a blank note with just a click of your mouse or by pressing a hot key; just type directly in the note or copy / paste directly from web sites, e-mails, and other applications; and save. You can format the text style; add bullets / numbers and set a color for each note card. Use type-ahead data fields that automatically complete entries based on previously entered data.
Now Portable! - You can purchase a portable version of ndxCards pre-installed in a 1GB USB drive, so you can use the program and the notes on any Windows computer. You can work at the library, school computer lab, dorm room, a colleagues'/teammates' computer, etc. Also, if your workplace does not let you install software, you can still use ndxCards to take notes, prepare outlines, and more.
Find your notes quickly
Organizing and retrieving notes is also simple. You can mark a note with a 'push pin' and retrieve it quickly with one click. Define your own subjects and keywords. Link a note to many keywords. Search for specific note cards using keywords, subjects, sources, dates or a combination of criteria. Name and save complex filter criteria for future use and reuse the filter to find the notes again.
Use information efficiently and effortlessly
The strength of ndxCards is its ability to interact well with standard Office software, allowing you to use your notes without a lot of extra work.
- Drop notes into PowerPoint or Visio and analyze them visually, drawing links between the cards and inferring relationships.
- Highlight a set of note cards from the notes list and drop the contents as a set into MS Word without having to open each note card-with citation references if so specified.
- Export a list of action cards to MS Excel as an action register.
Create outlines
ndxCards™ includes a powerful outlining tool. Create, edit and use outlines far easier than in a word processor. Incorporate your notes into this outline. You can then turn this outline into a research paper or a slide presentation with just a mouse click. More..
Collaborate
Collaborate by sharing cards with colleagues. Pack cards and send them to a colleague or a team member. You can select whether you want to allow other viewers to make changes to the cards or keep them read-only. Work groups can build a shared knowledge base this way.
