  • All versions:-
    • Preference settings are part of the database & do not have to be reset when you move data between computers.
    • Improved inline reference choices. Reference will now appear at the end of the note text as it should.
    • Keyword / subject cards have menu choices to improve maintenance. Keyword changes / correction done here can propogate automatically in all the notes where keyword is used.
    • Data file can be located in a network or removable drive such as a USB drive. You specify this at the time of installation.
    • Notes List
      • Shows paperclip icon if document is associated with a note. Clicking on icon shows document information and document can be opened without opening the note.
      • Clicking on paperclip icon for Picture cards will show preview of picture.
    • Note cards
      • You can choose to duplicate the source and keywords when you ask for a new blank note to automatically open upon saving the current note.
      • Printing source while printing note card will print the entire citation using the default format.
    • Improved outlining

      • Improved editing - easier to edit multi-line items; easy-edit mode to edit items without selecting them first.

    • The Source Card:
      • The source card is bigger and has additional fields.
      • There is a separate list for Editors from Authors when the Source is an Edited Book or an article in Proceedings.
      • There are two custom fields. You can store additional information in these fields and may find it particularly useful for new Source Types that you define.
    • New Source Types.
      • There are additional Source types included: Edited Book, Report etc.
      • You can add your own Source types.
    • Formatting Citations
      • Turabian style has been added to MLA, APA and Chicago styles. You can also add custom citation formatting styles (e.g. Harvard White Book).
      • You can specify how a reference should be formatted given a Source Type and Style. For each such combination, you can select the elements that are part of the citation (Author, Title etc.), and how they should be formatted (underlined, in quotations, preceded by Ed. etc.).
  • Superset version:-
    • You can import bibliograhic refernce information from, and export to EndNote using the Refer format.

    • Ability to change default size of note card - use the note card menu to remember the default size.
    • Completely new outlining tool in the project feature. Easier to create and maintain outlines. Projects are now stored as part of ndxCards data - not as separate files.
    • Updated printing capability. You can print index cards of standard sizes (3 x 5, 4 x 6 ..), or custom size cards laid out one or more on a page.
    • You can now drag drop keywords (subject, author etc.) from the keyword card (subject card etc.) on to the notes list to define the search filter criteria.
    • New look for Properties window - easier to find the property for customization.
  • Superset version:-
    • Picture card. Will let you store or link a picture (photograph, drawing, chart) with the note card. Use in travelogs, photo journals, recipe cards, genealogy etc.
    • Flash card. A new card type with two parts - front and back. Added menu commands for printing back side of cards. Make your own flash cards for studying / memorization.
    • Print on the back side for picture cards and flash cards.

    • Choice of seeing a scrollbar in the note card - set by an option in Properties
    • Ability to clear the recently used keyword list used in Auto Keyword command
    • Ability to suppress edit checks when saving note cards, e.g. for a missing keyword, or author name
    • Ability to associate a file with a note - you can drag a file or folder from the explorer on the note card, or select by choosing from directory listings. This will let you annotate a document or a picture with notes, keywords, etc. and open that file directly from the note card.

    • Choice of export settings in Projects to include exporting to MS Word
    • Improved citation capabilities, through an option to export projects directly to MS Word.
    • An addition of the ability to insert note cards (and any source information depending on options chosen) directly into an Open MS Word document.

    • Ability to format the visual representation of note cards in programs such as PowerPoint, Visio - Format shape command that lets you choose shape, colors, fonts. This can also be set as default from the Properties menu
    • Ability to export a PowerPoint presentation from project outline. Note titles appear as bulleted text and (first several lines of the) note content appear in the notes section of the PowerPoint slide

Ease of use features:
  • A new blank note card is presented when you save one allowing for rapid taking of many notes in succession. (This is an option that you can turn on/off).
  • Additional shortcut keys.
  • There is a 'password' feature that allows (or limits) the use of ndxCards when more than one person uses the same computer ( when there are multiple logon-IDs)
  • An Auto-Keyword feature that scans the note text for recently used keywords and automatically adds them
Project
  • Completely revamped user interface, with an interface that shows a more traditional tree structure.
  • Multiple project types - those that output Rich Text for writing papers, and those that output PowerPoint files
  • One click exporting of projects to PowerPoint document with slides that show hierarchical (like an organization chart) view of note cards.
Importing note cards
  • New user interface to provide control - import only new, update existing etc..
  • When an exported card (or one placed in a PowerPoint document) is brought back to the database, it is compared to what is in the note card file, and user is presented with a choice of actions.
Other features
  • Main menu includes Backup / Restore to safeguard data
  • Properties menu choices updated
  • There is a strikeout feature in the fonts (bold, italics etc.). Thus if one of your cards contains a to-do list, then you can check off items using the strikeout font style.
  • Reminders show a flashing icon in the tray till you close the reminder card.
Bug fixes:
  • Under some circumstances the caret (the place where you type) could disappear where you enter keywords. - Now fixed.
  • The Source button on the note card used to show a Source card - now it will show Source list, as it should.
  • Pinned cards will not disappear after saving - they will stay on the desktop.
